Mum’s Secret – A Review for Lucy’s Eczema

Jan 30

My children have all suffered with eczema as babies. Thankfully it has never been considered severe, but it is still hard to watch your baby scratching away at red raw skin, and feeling so helpless because you can’t do anything to ease the itch or the pain.

Recently Lucy had a breakout on her belly and one of her arms. It was bright red and she would start scratching away at any chance she could get. I tried all the creams we had used in the past – including pawpaw ointment, steroid creams, natural remedies, and prescription medications. Nothing seemed to break the cycle – that is to be able to soothe her skin long enough to let it heal.

So I took to the Mummy Smiles Facebook community and asked for some advice. I was absolutely gobsmacked by the number of different suggestions that other Mums had tried for their bubs. It’s quite overwhelming – there are soooo many products on the market and you just never know what is going to work for your child.

I then received a lovely email from Emma at Mum’s Secret. After hearing about the problems I was having with Lucy’s eczema, she very kindly offered to send me some of the Mum’s Secret Soothe & Repair moisturising cream. Made from a unique blend of botanical extracts, pure plant oils and skin enhancing vitamins, it sounded like just what I needed to help Lucy’s skin recover from her latest outbreak.

I wanted to be completely fair and accurate in the review so I took some before photos. It’s not the easiest thing to do when holding up her wiggling arm with one hand, and trying to focus a camera with the other. But you get the idea :)

When the cream arrived, I was so desperate that I stripped Lucy straight off and slathered it all over her straight away. I was very surprised by the aroma. I am so used to Lucy smelling like a chemist with her conconction of lotions and potions, so to have her smell…. fresh…. was just lovely! The cream rubbed in beautifully and there was no greasy residue, so she didn’t slip through my hands when I picked her up again!

I applied the cream to her affected areas at each nappy change and then after her bath. It obviously soothed her because she started twisting around on the change table to reach into the bucket where I kept the cream!

After exactly one week of use, I am so excited to show you the results! There was a small patch on the back of her shoulder that was so raw that I applied a steroid cream on the spot after her bath on the first two nights, before using the Soothe & Repair cream over the top. Other than these two steroid cream applications on this small spot, I used no other creams on Lucy for the whole week.

As you can see, there was a dramatic improvement, with almost no sign of the eczema that had been so red and painful just a week ago.

Now that the rash has cleared, I simply apply the Soothe & Repair cream all over as a general moisturiser after bath time, which keeps her skin lovely and soft.

A few days ago, I had a small patch of contact dermatitis appear on my hand. It was sooooo itchy!! Normally I just live with it until it clears up but I thought I would try Mum’s Secret and see what happened. The relief was almost instant! Within a couple of minutes the sting was gone. Each time it started to get itchy I reapplied the cream to calm the irritation. I found that by not constantly scratching away it, my skin was able to heal quickly, with no trace after just a few short days.

The Mum’s Secret Sooth & Repair moisturising cream is a collaboration between two Mums from New Zealand. It is free from parabens, mineral oil, propylene, glycol, petrochemicals, fragrance, parfum, nut oils and lanolin. It is also gentle enough to be able to be used on all family members and can be used on a variety of skin conditions.

I am a firm believer that the skin is very clever at healing itself – IF given the chance. What I love most about this cream is that it instantly takes away the burning itch, and lets the skin actually start to recover.

You can buy the Soothe & Repair cream HERE in two sizes. The 50mL tube is perfect for the nappy bag or handbag and retails for $14.90. The larger tube is 125mL is ideal for home use and retails for $29.90. For a limited time, you can get FREE POSTAGE on your Soothe & Repair creams by simply adding the code “mummysmiles” at the checkout!

This cream will definitely be a stayer in our house!

I may have to try it on my Emily , we have tried so many products just like you and each time she complains that the creams ”burn her” :o ( .
She has some relief at the moment because it is summer but as soon as that cold weather comes in she will be red & itchy again.

Oh no – that’s awful. I tried a cream on Fred once and he screamed because of the burn. I felt awful!! I hope this is the one for you!

So glad you found something to help poor Lucy. I LOVE Mum’s Secret. I first bought it at an expo after testing it on dermatitis I had on both of my hands and it didn’t sting. I hadn’t found anything that didn’t hurt when I applied it – even the creams marketed for babies and sensitive skin! Within 4 days, the dermatitis that I had had for over 4months had gone. I was stoked and then used it on the very mild eczema both my boys get and it is awesome! It is the only cream my four year old allows me to put on him and my 20 month old does the same as Lucy – tries to get it from the change table then hands it to me as a subtle hint. I recommend it to all my friends with little ones with sore skin and the reaction is always the same. It is amazing how the older kids who can talk will comment on how nice it feels and then ask for it. My four year old always asks for “Mum’s special blue cream” if he has an itch :)

I saw ‘suitable for insect bites’ and I’m very interested in trying it out. My little ones get very itchy and red from the ol’ mozzie bite. Would love it this eased some of that discomfort.

  6. Hi Nat
Thank you for this recommendation, after being on their site and seeing just how much it can do I have gone and bought a tube. I have a little girl who suffers bad eczema and my older girl suffering it on her eyes :( The only thing to ever clear it up was the steroids so I look forward to trying this out on her, will be using it for cradle cap for bubs too… thank you again, its product reviews like this that make me confident about making a purchase.

  7. Great post Nat, I have an 8yo and 6yo who still get eczema, especially in the summer (I think thanks to sunscreen :0( )
Happy to give this a try!

  8. Nat – My son suffers too and I recently tried a product called ‘Hope’s Relief’ – can’t speak highly enough of it. You can buy a ‘moisturiser’ and a soap. His cleared up in a week and we continue to use the ‘soap’ all the time and the ‘moisturiser’ as needed.

That’s great Cate! It’s so exciting when you find one that actually works for you!

I am very interested in this product. My daughter also suffers from ezcema and we’ve tried SO many different products… Hesitant to try another product, but the reviews seem so good. Went to purchase some of this to try but there doesn’t seem to be a place to enter the code for free postage. Can you point in the right direction of where to find it? Thanks.

    • Hi Kirrily – the code can be entered in the Vouchers Code section in the “Cart”, before you go to checkout. If you have any problems, please email me at info@mumssecret.com.au Thanks.

Hi Kirrily. Let me know how you go. It can be frustrating trying so many but I am very happy to have found this!

      • Kirrily /

Thanks Natalie. It sounds good, so I’m looking forward to receiving it and hoping I have as much success with it as you have! :)

  10. Wow that is a massive result. You must be thrilled with the improvement, poor little mite.

I too had success with Mum’s Secret, my little one had shocking eczema on her cheeks, chin and chest for months and we couldn’t find anything that would break the cycle. We tried every natural remedy under the sun. After reading about Mum’s Secret, I ordered some and trialled it, and was stunned with the result. I think she has largely grown out of her eczema at 19 months but still use Mum’s Secret on any little flare ups and it’s magic.

That’s fantastic feedback Krystal – thank you! So good to hear your little one has grown out of her eczema. I am patiently waiting for that day!
