Oprah’s No Phone Zone Pledge
I had a moment of mental clarity today.
There was an article on the news about people who had been caught on camera doing crazy things behind the wheel. They showed people eating breakfast, girls applying make-up, men reading maps, and of course many talking and texting on their mobile phones.
The one that really got me though was the bus driver who was texting on his phone. I was so indignant! I thought, “How dare he put the lives of all those passengers at risk.”
PING (that’s the sound of the light bulb going on in my head!)
And I suddenly “got it”. My car trips have always been viewed as my own little mini-mobile-office. I make calls, send texts, and check emails while driving. I am embarrassed to admit it, but I know for certain that I am not the only one.
Well – no more. Starting right now, I have pledged to make my car a No Phone Zone. I will not be distracted by talking, texting, or emailing while driving. I will be present to the the very real responsibility of driving my four children, the most precious beings in the world to me, in a safe and careful manner.
This will be a huge change for me, so I am going to put my phone in my handbag, and put it in the boot. Therefore it will be physically out of reach, so there is no temptation to grab it for a sneak peak.
Join me in making your car a No Phone Zone so we can make our roads safer for all our children!
You can sign the pledge here.
And let me know if you’ve signed – we’re all in this together!
