A few weeks ago, I experienced a morning that literally rocked my world. I was invited to experience what it was like behind the wheel of a V8 Supercar to celebrate the ARMOR ALL Gold Coast 600 – held on the Gold Coast from 19-21 October, 2012. As I channeled my inner racing car driver and tore around the track, I felt like I was experiencing one of the greatest thrills of my life! That was until super-driver James Courtney politely relegated me to the passenger seat, and he jumped in to the drivers seat.
This is where I kind of lost all sense of reality, and words, and ability to speak, breathe or move. Oh. My God.
There is speed, and then there is speed. And then there is driving around doing Hot Laps in a V8 Supercar with a champion driver! I was gobsmacked. I have a WHOLE NEW respect for the sport of motor-racing. When I drove home that day, my abs hurt, my arms hurt, my shoulders hurt, and you could NOT have wiped the smile off my face.
Also that morning I took on the likes of Craig Lowndes, Jamie Whincup, Russell Ingall and Lee Holdsworth in a series of events, and despite what might have been seen by some as an “interesting” interpretation of the rules by a certain Mr Lowndes, James and I were the firm favourites to win . Don’t believe me? I have proof!
What really surprised me about the morning, and after talking to the promoters as well as the drivers, was how much the V8 Supercar events focus on providing entertainment for the entire family. Kids are extremely welcomed and well-catered for (kids under 12 get FREE general admission with a paying adult!), with the big attraction being the Disney-Pixar Cars Experience – complete with a massive transporter which unpacks into every child’s Disney Cars fantasy!
Kids and families can rev those engines as Mack the Transporter is joined by his famous friend, Lightning McQueen, as the official Disney-Pixar CARS Truck Tour continues on its tour of V8 Supercar events and heads to the ARMOR ALL Gold Coast 600 in October.
When Mack rolls into position, families and fans are given the opportunity to ride, race and play their way through a new whole world of Cars themed entertainment, inspired by the Disney-Pixar CARS 2.
Little ones can get up close and take their photo with Lightning McQueen or visit the green screen and put themselves into a scene from the movie. They can learn the rules of the road on the Junior Drivers Training Track. Plus, there’s more colour-in fun, games and activities in Mater’s Workshop, a new jumping castle, wheel change station and of course the ultimate Race-O-Rama PS3 play-offs going round the clock!

My husband works 6 days a week, and Sunday is ALWAYS family day! As much as he loves spending time with us, there are only so many markets and playgrounds a man can tolerate – this would be the perfect day out for ALL of us!

This prize is made for my hubby and son. Hubby is a Ford nut, you cannot even speak when racing is on. This weekend he will be glued to the tv. Little one(4) is Cars mad he loves the V8′s, Frosty is his favourite.

Firstly because my husband is a racing fanatic (I am about to become a Bathurst widow this weekend as he will not move from in front of the TV!!) and although we live on the Gold Coast my husband never gets to go. We have the movies (I know all of the words!), every single car imaginable and hours upon hours are spent playing with them. Like Daddy, master five is a car enthusiast and especially loves Lightning. Just tonight we read (an incredibly long!) book about Lightning and the road he had to repair in Radiator Springs…and not doing a great job…and learning that friendship is the most important thing….need I go on?
